Plant Stewardship Index

Plant Stewardship Index: An Overview

A new analytical tool for land conservationists, land managers, and property owners

Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve (BHWP) has broadened its horizons and is reaching beyond its 134-acre site to help protect and manage local plant communities and habitats. The Preserve has developed the Plant Stewardship Index (PSI) specifically to evaluate the Piedmont plant communities of the Delaware Valley region in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The PSI provides a practical and standardized tool for assessing the biological integrity of a site, including open space, public lands and private property. This new diagnostic tool will assist land conservationists, land managers and property owners in measuring the effectiveness of land management practices over time.
