Gala Auction

This year the live and silent auctions will feature culinary experiences, local events, and interesting items that support this year's avian theme.  Garden décor and plants will be available for purchase as well.

Descriptions of the 12 exciting live auction items for 2012 are below and don't forget that these will be joined by many equally enticing silent auction items too!

Live auction item 1:   Eagle Eyed

Live auction item 2:   A Rare Bird - Audubon Print

Robert Havell, Jr., (1793-1878) the renowned London engraver and later a member of the Hudson River School of American painters, was engaged by John James Audubon to reproduce his color plates in the Birds of America portfolio.  Havell’s “aquatint” engravings were, and still are, recognized as an important artistic achievement and a critical component to the success of Audubon’s four volume series.  This rare Havell piece is a “double elephant” (refers to the size) folio print of a Jaeger, an Arctic-nesting seabird.  The print was purchased at an Audubon Auction at Christies in 2011.

Live auction item 7:   Birds of a Feather Enjoy Jazz Together

Live auction item 8:   A Floral Paradise

Live auction item 9:   Summer Fun

Live auction item 10:   Fine Wines

Whether you are a connoisseur or a novice, you will enjoy this collective of delicious wines donated courtesy of the Bowman’s Hill Gala Committee and hand-selected by local oenophile and collector Jim Datin.  Detailed information on included wines will be available at the Gala.


 Live auction item 11:   Three Men and a Guided Birding Tour

Six individuals may experience a relaxed and engaging tour of the preserve by Bowman’s Hill trustees Jim Greenwood, Don Parlee, and noted wildlife photographer Howard Eskin.  Brunch or dinner is included at the New Hope home of Jim and Tina Greenwood.  A DVD of photos taken during the walk will be included as a lasting memory of this lovely experience.

 Live auction item 12:   Early Morning Point Pleasant

Enhance your art collection and home with the peaceful scene in this oil landscape (18" x 18") titled Early Morning Point Pleasant and painted by the locally acclaimed artist Christopher Willett.  Willett is a New Hope, Bucks County Impressionist known for cpaturing the simplicity and beauty of an earlier time.  To name drop just a bit, the artist is a descendant of Edward Hicks, a friend and confidant of Andrew Wyeth, and his work has been compared to Edward Redfield's in both style and subject.
