Programs for Kids and Families

New Hope, Pennsylvania – The Preserve offers plenty of opportunities for kids and families to experience nature firsthand. Frogs and flowers, birds and butterflies, turtles and trees, pond and Pidcock Creek await your discovery. Below are highlights of our kid-friendly programs. All programs take place at the Preserve.

Parents, teachers and adults: We also offer guided group tours. If you want to schedule a fun and educational field trip with a seasonal theme for your child’s school class, scout troop, camp or play group, call the Preserve (215) 862-2924

Daily Guided Wildflower Walks: For all ages

April 1 through October 31, 2 - 3 p.m.
Join a Preserve staff member or trained Volunteer Naturalist for guided walk through the Preserve. See flowers and fruits in season and discover fun facts about their use. Learn about the Preserve’s history, habitats and important plant/animal interactions. Walk through woodlands, meadows, along a pond and Pidcock Creek. Sign up for the walk in the Visitor Center upon arrival. The tour, which takes about one hour, departs at 2 p.m. for a minimum of two visitors and weather permitting.

Fee: Non-members: Adults-$5, Seniors (62+)-$3, Children 4 through 14-$2, Under 4-free. Preserve members: free.

After-School Wonder Walk: Grades 2 - 4.

Tuesday, April 10, 4 - 5:30 p.m. Pre-registration required.
Call the Preserve (215) 862-2924.

This quarterly program also will be held on Tuesdays: June 5, September 18 and December 11 (Dec. 11 program from 4 – 5 p.m.)

In this new program, join Volunteer Naturalist Pam Newitt for an afternoon of wonder as we explore the Preserve. We’ll discover the secrets hidden deep in the Preserve as we look at animals, plants, insects, tracks and anything else nature reveals. Wear comfortable shoes and come prepared to get dirty.  

Fee: Non-members: Adults-$5, Seniors (62+)-$3, Children 4 through 14-$2, Under 4-free. Preserve members: free.

Spring Bird Walks: 8-year-olds through adult.

Saturday, April 14, 7:30-9:30 a.m.
These weekly walks take place on Saturdays: April 14, 21 & 28, May 5, 12, 19 & 26, and June 2, 9 & 16.

Experienced, local birding guides will help you find the delightful birds that make the Preserve their home. Our plant and habitat diversity provide nesting sites and food sources for many species of birds including warblers, thrushes, chickadees, woodpeckers, towhees, nuthatches, goldfinches and more. Bird walks leave from the Visitor Center; sign up upon arrival.

Fee: Non-members: Adults-$5, Seniors (62+)-$3, Children 4 through 14-$2, Under 4-free. Preserve members: free.

Family Wonder Walk

Sunday, April 15, 4 – 5:30 p.m. Pre-registration required by Friday, April 13. Call the Preserve (215) 862-2924.
Program also will be held on Sunday, September 16. Pre-registration required.

Families are invited to join Volunteer Naturalist Pam Newitt for an informal wonder walk as we explore the Preserve and examine what makes this place so special. We’ll explore forest, stream, pond and meadow habitats and discover the animals and plants that live in these unique places. Come prepared for a moderately strenuous walk. Not suitable for strollers.

Fee: Non-members: Adults-$5, Seniors (62+)-$3, Children 4 through 14-$2, Under 4-free. Preserve members: free. Call the Preserve at (215) 862-2924.

Preschool Reading Hour:  Ages 3 to 5

Thursday, April 19, 10 - 11 a.m. Pre-registration required by Tuesday, April 17.
Program also will be held on Thursdays May 17, September 20, October 18 and November 15.

Preschool children and parents are invited to hear a book about the outdoors followed by a walk through the Preserve in search of the plants and critters in the stories. The children also will make a nature-themed craft to take home. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Come to one or more programs.

Fee: Non-members: Adults-$5, Seniors (62+)-$3, Children 4 through 14-$2, Under 4-free. Preserve members: free. 

A Walk in the Moonlight: All ages

Saturday, May 26, 8 - 9:30 p.m. Pre-registration required by Thursday, May 24.
Call the Preserve (215) 862-2924.

Program also will be held Saturday evenings June 30, July 28, August 25, September 22 and October 20.

A bright moonlit night adds a little magic to a stroll in the woods. Join us for this special program as we explore the natural world at night. We may see bats hunting for insects over Pidcock Creek, hear owls calling or see early fireflies. Bring a small flashlight.

Fee: Non-members: $6 adult/$4 child. Preserve members: $4 adult/$2 child.
