Butterfly Walk – geared to teenagers through adults
Saturday, September 8,  10 – 11:30 a.m. Pre-registration required by Thursday, September 6; call the Preserve (215) 862-2924.

Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve protects more than the lovely wildflowers that grace our paths. Butterflies depend on native plants for flowers that provide rich nectar and leaves that provide food for caterpillars. Join Teresa Knipper, Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve Volunteer Naturalist, to explore our meadow and identify these beautiful denizens of the Preserve. Teresa will point out the best nectar and host plants, and suggest ways to invite butterflies into your own yard and garden. Helpful items to bring along are close-focus binoculars, a butterfly field guide and extra water. Walk will begin and end at the Visitor Center.

Fee: Non-members: $6, Preserve members: $4.

Chestnut Walk – geared to adults
Saturday, September 15,  9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Pre-registration required by Thursday, September 13; call the Preserve (215) 862-2924.

JoinIan Caton, landscape designer and Preserve Naturalist, on an expedition to find and learn about the American chestnut (Castanea dentata). On this extended walk we will visit our cabin (built of chestnut logs), see chestnut relatives, and venture to seldom-visited parts of the Preserve in search of our few remaining chestnut trees. Discussion will focus on the history of the American chestnut, its unfortunate fate and efforts to bring the chestnut back from the brink of extinction. Afterward, shop at the Fall Native Plant Sale.

Fee: Non-members: $6, Preserve members: $4.
