Wildflower Preserve Continues to Achieve National Honor

New Hope, Pennsylvania - Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve again has been awarded the highest honor a museum can receive: renewal of accreditation by the American Association of Museums. Accreditation certifies that a museum operates according to standards set forth by the museum profession, manages its collections responsibly and provides quality service to the public. Museums eligible for accreditation range widely, from art museums to botanical gardens. The Preserve's collection includes a living collection of nearly 1000 Pennsylvania native plants, the Platt Collection of mounted birds, nests and eggs, a library and photographic images.

Of the 8,000 museums nationwide, only about 750 are accredited. Of the 750, Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve has the distinction of being one of only six botanical gardens receiving this honor within the horticulturally rich, mid-Atlantic region.

"We hope the people of New Hope, Bucks County and all of Pennsylvania share our pride in earning this prestigious honor," stated Miles Arnott, Executive Director of Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve. "This process was rigorous and demanding, as we examined virtually every aspect of the Preserve's operations. A year of self-study, an on-site review by a team of museum professionals with expertise in public garden administration, and reviews by the Accreditation Commission was required. We invite everyone in our region to help us celebrate this award by visiting Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve and exploring our fine programs, beautiful grounds and indoor exhibits. Current exhibits include "Deer Problems", "Invasive Plants" and "Pennsylvania's Natural Heritage."

The Preserve is located at 1685 River Road (PA Rt. 32) about 2.5 miles south of New Hope, Pennsylvania. The Preserve is open daily year-round (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). The grounds are open from 8:30 a.m.- sunset; the Visitor Center from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Admission for Preserve members is free. Non-member admission fee: Adults-$5, Seniors (age 62 and older)-$3, Children 4 through 14-$2, Under 4-free. A daily guided tour (offered at 2:00 p.m. from mid-March through October) is free with paid admission.

Accreditation is one of several programs offered by the American Association of Museums to help museums achieve and maintain standards of quality and excellence in the museum profession. AAM is a national organization, with its headquarters in Washington, D.C., that has served the museum profession since 1906.
