Become a Wildflower Preserve Intern

New Hope, Pennsylvania – Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve provides internships to qualified students who want to learn about native plants and public gardens. The Preserve features 100 acres of native Pennsylvania flora in naturalistic settings, with nearly 1,000 species of native wildflowers, trees, shrubs, vines and ferns. The internship includes training by Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve staff in the areas of native plant propagation, groundskeeping and trail maintenance, public education and interpretation and curatorial work. Previous interns have received college credit for this program.

The internship program begins in May or June, runs for 10 to 15 forty-hour weeks and includes an hourly wage. Field trips to other arboreta, botanical gardens and natural areas round out interns' understanding of plants and public gardens. Interns are also required to complete a special independent research or work project under the direction of the Education Department.

Applicants must be of college level ability and have completed at least 2 years of course work in botany, horticulture and/or related environmental studies. Applicants should be capable of rigorous outdoor work including lifting, digging and sustained walking which are required at times during the course of the internship. Interns are responsible for making arrangements for housing and providing their own transportation.

Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve is located on 1635 River Road (PA Rt. 32) about 2.5 miles south of New Hope, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and convenient to I-95.

To apply, complete the internship application and mail to Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve. Applications also are available from Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve by calling (215) 862-2924 or by sending a request to: BHWP Education Dept., P.O. Box 685, New Hope, PA 18938-0685.
